Best Time for Offshore Fishing
Offshore fishing is great year-round. Some seasons offer better conditions for specific species — here's what to expect:
Peak Sailfish Season
The most famous season in Costa Rica. Large schools of Pacific sailfish arrive in the central pacific between Drake Bay and Los Sueños — Quepos is right in the heart of it all.
Transitional Months
All offshore species can be caught. Exceptional fishing for marlin, sailfish, tuna and dorado on any given day — coinciding with yellowfin tuna runs in summer.
Meat Fish & Billfish
Offshore fishing is still great. Less pressure on the fish and ideal for filling the cooler with fresh tuna or dorado. Some afternoon rain is possible but doesn't affect fishing.
